A selection of riders expected to challenge for 250cc race wins in 2009 will be testing next week in Jerez, as part of the opening lower cylinder category practice opportunity of the year. Sharing the track with 125cc riders, the 250cc lineup in southern Spain is headed by 2008 World Championship runner-up Alvaro Bautista. Reigning titlist Marco Simoncelli will not be present, electing to test later in the week in Valencia.

Taking place from Monday, January 26th to Wednesday, January 28th, the test sees Bautista joined by Aspar associates Mike di Meglio and Gabor Talmacsi, both new arrivals from 125cc tipped to make a big impact in the quarter-litre category. Further rivals for the Spaniard come in the form of Thomas Luthi and Hiroshi Aoyama, the latter making his debut after a hastily-arranged deal to ride with Team Scot Honda for the coming season.

Aoyama´s new teammate Raffaele de Rosa makes his 250cc testing debut on a second Honda, and the Japanese factory will also field Hector Faubel and Ratthapark Wilairot for all three of the testing sessions under the Thai Honda PTT banner. Alex Baldolini and Lukas Pesek complete the category´s entrants on Aprilia machinery.
Julian Simon, Sergio Gadea, Bradley Smith, Dominique Aegerter and Sandro Cortese line up in the 125cc class for their latest testing runs, as the 2-stroke season moves ever-closer
