MotoGP Race Direction has announced it will meet with Marco Simoncelli at this weekend's Catalan Grand Prix to 'further discuss' the incident at Le Mans.
A brief statement announcing the meeting can be seen below - and gives no indication as to whether the Italian is to be warned further about his riding, or if Race Direction feels the need to explain the ride-through penalty imposed on the San Carlo Honda Gresini rider at Le Mans.
Simoncelli was penalised after clashing with Dani Pedrosa as the pair fought over second place in France. Simoncelli, who had caught and briefly passed Pedrosa, moved just in front again as they hit the brakes at the end of the back straight.
The #58, on the (outside) racing line, then turned across the Repsol Honda rider.
Pedrosa's front wheel made contact with Simoncelli at the apex, causing the Spaniard to fall and break his collarbone.
Simoncelli continued but was denied a debut MotoGP podium by the ride-through penalty and instead finished fifth.
2010 title runner-up Pedrosa and his side of the Repsol Honda garage were furious with the move, and the majority of MotoGP riders also criticised Simoncelli for not leaving Pedrosa more room.
However Simoncelli insisted he had given Pedrosa space to make the turn and that the penalty was fuelled by previous complaints about his riding-style, rather than the incident itself.
Team manager Fausto Gresini agreed.
"This was a racing incident that could happen at any time, and in which Marco had passed Pedrosa," said Gresini. "It wasn't intentional, and I think that all the controversy beforehand has fanned the flames of an unpleasant situation."
Monday's FIM statement is as follows:
"The Race Direction will call Italian rider Marco Simoncelli during the Catalunya Grand Prix this week, to further discuss the incident during the MotoGP race at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans."
A Crash.net poll showed 67% of fans believed it had been a 'racing incident' and that Simoncelli should not have been penalised.
