Circuit de Catalunya will continue to host the most prestigious motor race in the world, MotoGP, until 2016. The reason is, there is agreement extends the contract for five years (2012-2016).
This track has hosted the MotoGP since 1992, first as the European Grand Prix and later (1994) as the Catalan GP.
"I am pleased that the Circuit de Catalunya remain a part of the history and future of MotoGP, provide modern facilities that already exist for 20 years and bring discipline in the arena of motor racing," said CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta.
Barcelona's Circuit is one of the few tracks that host for F1 and MotoGP races. Salvador Servia Director-General emphasized that the racing of two-wheel gives a pretty good economic impact.
"It's certainly fun for agreeing to a deal that allows for an annual race, which gives the economic impact of earning 30 million euros for the entire area around the circuit," said Servia.
"Now it's time to work to publicize this agreement in business and economic environment of the state in order to maximize its benefits, and share this opportunity on a world scale through the promotion."
This year, the Catalan MotoGP suck the audience as much as 81,838 people on Sunday, with a total of 146,718 spectators during the three day event (starting at the first practice until the race).
Catalan GP is one of three rounds in Spain, which is in the MotoGP calendar. The other two are at Jerez and Valencia.
