Yoshimura Suzuki rider James Stewart suffered a wrist injury during Moto 1 of the Thunder Valley Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross stop on Saturday in Lakewood, Colo. According to Stewart's website, he had laid down the fastest qualifying lap time in practice and started in tenth. Within a few laps of the race, he had advanced to the front of the pack and was enjoying a two-second lead over Ryan Dungey when a media member ran in front of Stewart as he was landing from a step-down jump. The movement distracted Stewart long enough for him to crash and injure his wrist.
The injury forced Stewart out of the race. "It was a bummer, but at the end of the day, that's racing," said Stewart, who entered into Thunder Valley with a 4-for-4 record on the 2012 AMA circuit. "The wrist is hurting pretty good, so we'll go back and get some X-Rays and see where we are," he continued.
Stewart will return to his home state of Florida determine how serious the damage to his wrist is. He remains optimistic about the injury and hopes to make his return to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series at High Point in Mount Morris, Pa. next Saturday.
Entering into Thunder Valley, Stewart had achieved wins in both motos of the first two stops of the AMA Motocross series. His wrist injury and lack of points at Thunder Valley dropped him down to third place overall in 450 Motocross, trailing behind Ryan Dungey in first and Jake Weimer in second.
