Casey Stoner admits that he had a tough weekend at Mugello – MotoGP news
Casey Stoner has admitted that he has not been the most comfortable with his Honda during the Mugello MotoGP race.
Stoner finished eighth in the race at the Italian Grand Prix and has put it down on the bike as he said that his whole weekend was not how he intended it.
During the qualifiers, he tripped off the road and could only qualify for a fifth which was very disappointing for the reigning world champion.
Stoner explained his trip and said that the issue was mainly due to a brake issue in the bike. He said that he made a mistake in the race when he had a bit of a shake exiting at turn 11 of the track. He believed that he had enough brake power to stop the bike before the edge hitting the edge of the track but in the end he had too much of a momentum and he had to run over the gravel trap losing out on vital time.
After the race, he also apologised for the Alvaro Bautista incident as Stoner barged past the Honda driver in order to regain ground.
Stone was so worried about his performance that he said that he was hoping to salvage a podium at least from the race as Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo war seemingly out of reach for the champion.
“It's definitely not the way we planned it, we thought today we could be fighting for the podium and maybe have the pace to stay with Dani,” said Stoner. “Jorge has ridden fantastically all weekend and hasn't really put a foot wrong but I think a third position would have been good today.”
“However, we just couldn't get the bike working. During our last attempts in warm-up we couldn't get anything to work, we weren't very happy with the bike today and I just didn't feel comfortable,” he added.
Stoner admitted it was a disappointing end to very difficult weekend. He wanted to salvage something from the weekend but he was unable to but now the focus for him is to bounce back in the coming races.
